When I first heard this I was positive I knew it… vintage Cure thought, I. Then I played it for my older sister (a huge fan of The Cure) who laughed at me and told me this in fact, its a new song, by a new band. Turns out, I know it because it was on The Hills, or worse yet, The City… I hope you wont judge me (or the band) for that! It is said that within three seconds of meeting someone, you are evaluated. First impressions are forever. They cannot be redone, reshot, or removed. Once that mark has been made, it is permanent…so why not make your first impression the best it can be, right?

Stiff as a board
When it comes to parties, invitations are usually the earliest element that guests come in contact with. Invites set the tone for your party, get people fired up, and give a little sneak peak as to what your event has in store. Perk your guests’ interest by doing something a little different that will definitely catch their attention…Send an invitation by Innovation!

FOUR!!
The Innovation Companies specializes in custom print that is unique, creative, and uses the most unexpected materials I’ve ever seen. From steel to wood, plexi-glass to feathers, you can guarantee that their invites will impress.
Don’t blow that event’s first impression with a lame tent folded card, nail it with something ingenious. Come on, you only get one shot.

Lights Out
This election has no age limit. You don’t have to drive to the polls to cast your ballot. “I Voted” stickers are not issued and the selection here is not between leaders from opposing parties. You are choosing between Earth and Global Warming.
At 8:30 pm this Saturday, people from all over the world will have a chance to decide. Turn off your lights for 60 minutes and stand up for your planet or leave your lights on and succumb to the threat that is global warming.
Now I’m sorry to be Debbie Downer on this lovely Friday and give y’all a guilt trip and shiz, but honestly people, I’m worried, as I think we probably all are about the state of our world. This is one simple thing that we can all be a part of that symbolizes something so much bigger. What are you doing to stop global warming?
Fight for the planet! Fight for future generations! Lights out tomorrow for Earth Hour. Every vote counts.

Anyone who knows me is aware that I am Mexican at heart. I have a deep love for all things Latin- the food, fashion, culture, and colors- love love love love. However, due to the current state of affairs south of the border, I haven’t been able to visit my beloved MEX in over a year…tear.
But alright, enough with the self pity. I’ve found a cure…well at least a temporary filler to mend my broken little guera heart. SACATINTA!! This e-store has enough Latin American textiles and jewelry to last me until the government straightens up (cross your fingers) and business goes back to normal.

The site is based in Europe and everything is in French but don’t let that intimidate you- the beautifully embroidered scarves, purses, and shirts will not be lost in translation. I’m kind of obsessed with the Virgin Guadelupe earrings that are hand painted on what looks like the inside of a bottle cap. Que? I know. So adorable.
So break through that language barrier and get some adorable brightly colored fashions brought to you in part by your friends south of the border. Ole!

How adorable are these wedding cupcake toppers I found on Etsy by Goosegrease? Since everyone is still on the wedding cupcake kick (and why not, Sprinkles are de-lish!) I thought this would be a fun one to share with you.
They have a vintage feel that I love, but are totally unique… plus I think afterwards you should stick that pick into a cork and create the cutest wine bottle topper on planet earth.

Alright, I’ll admit it… when fringe started popping up everywhere I was intrigued. As recently as last week I spied a fringey dress from Sass & Bide that reconfirmed my love for that label. But I take a little issue with all these fringe-bags! Reason being, that your bag/purse/pocketbook (depending on which part of the country you hail from) should be a fashion statement, should be high quality, and (this is just my personal opinion) should last longer than the season you buy it in. But, for Melie Bianco’s eggplant hued beauty I will bite my tongue and proceed to check out. This is just the thing to bust out this spring: it’s daring, colorful, and maybe just a little bad-ass! And even better… this little bag has many many equally adorable friends, that all hover just under $100, and I’d be willing to bet my Louis that Melie’s creations wont be that cheap for long, so buy three!

I was reading one of my fashion mags and some famous so-in-so fabulous gay stylist was saying that his famous so-in-so model BFF just adored wearing colored eyeliner (what-ev! thought I) then he said, “no really, it’s easier than you think!” Alright gay stylist… gauntlet thrown, challenge accepted!
So, down I went to Sephora to scope out my options. It seems everyone with even a hint of edge to their brand (MAC, Kat Von D, etc) has 97 different shades to choose from. I was totally overwhelmed since I typically line my eyes with Stila which is fantastic, but also $30-something a piece which seemed crazy when A: I wasn’t even sure I’d like it and B: I wanted to try a few different flavors. Luckily, the kindly shopgirl at Sephora (whose eyes were lined with emerald green by the by) lead me over to the Sephora brand where for $8 per liner you can buy a rainbow of colors and try them all out in the comfort of your own boudoir!
Turns out the fabulous gay was right (aren’t they always?) it IS easier than you would think, and a really fun way to mix it up and try something new!

Super cool perk of doing the Entertainment Weekly Lounge at Sundance this year… EW Photo shoot!!
Bear in mind that this was at the end of a long day (which was at the end of a LONG week) but if you compare with the celebrity photo shoots that took place in the same space (like Parker Posey, Ashton Kutcher, Ben Affleck, etc) it makes this pretty damn sweet!

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.
Billie Holiday once said “A kiss that is never tasted, is forever and ever wasted.” This can also be said if you never visit Red White and Bluezz. A few weeks, ago a friend introduced me to this velvety smooth jazz and wine bar in Old Town Pasadena. I walked in the door and knew I was forever in love.
There was an amazing jazz band playing and the vibe made me feel like Lady Day would sit down next to me at any minute. Whether you’re a jazz or blues fanatic or are looking for a hideaway from the usual LA crowd, this is the perfect spot for groups, romance or just a solo night to relax and enjoy great music, wine and fare. Ask for a seat in The Jazz Club, and don’t forget your fedora.

Sandy Pigeon
Imagine my joy and delight when a friendly pigeon wondered into Pricilla’s coffee shop this afternoon! He sauntered in, headed towards the coffee bar ready to order his sugar free vanilla latte and then (as if it wasn’t ALWAYS his intention) he begin to pick up bits of broken scones and muffins dropped on the floor by messy patrons. This pigeon, we’ll call him Sandy, didn’t disturb anyone and I think, did solid for the staff by assisting them with the cleanup they’d just inevitably have to do later at closing. I loved the instant personality test it provided for my fellow coffee drinkers, most of which found Sandy adorable and even deigned to share their afternoon treats with him… which he enjoyed, until some ogre chased him out the door for no real reason I could surmise. Man that guys going to feel weird when he realizes Sandy is actually the owner of this whole damn place and Pricilla’s is really just a pseudo-name for tax purposes.
