As Seen on KTLA: French Onion Soup

Onions and Mushrooms

This French Onion Soup is so easy to make it’s almost unfair. Something this savory and delicious should take hours of slaving over a hot stove… but with these shortcuts you’ll be ready to serve in 30 minutes or less!

What You’ll Need

1 Small Brown Onion – Thinly Sliced

1 Cup of Chopped Mushrooms

1 Tbls of Olive Oil

1 Package of Lipton’s French Onion Soup Mix

4 Cups of Water

Croutons – I used Mrs Cubbison’s Asiago Cheese because I love the flavor it adds

Mozzarella Fresca – Ideally you’d use gruyere but it’s hard to find and in a pinch the Mozzarella is just as delicious!

Sautee My Way

In a deep sauté pan (deep enough to accommodate the 4 Cups of water you’ll add) sauté onions and mushrooms on medium high until onions are translucent (about 10 minutes).

Mix In

Mix in French Onion Soup Mix

Soupy

Add four cups of water and bring to a boil. Once it’s boiling reduce heat and allow to simmer for 10 minutes.

Crouton Garnish

Ladle soup into individual ramekins or some other oven safe container… if you were making dinner for the whole family you could make one big casserole of this. Top with a layer of croutons.

Cheesy

Top croutons with a thick slice of cheese.

Broil Meets Girl

Put ramekins in the oven on broil… be sure to watch this, broil tends to work rather quickly. You want the cheese to bubble and brown and then it’s ready to serve.

Soups On!

Simple and easy, filling and delicious, this makes the perfect weeknight meal. Enjoy!
